So far we have learned about the kolintang, how to play it
and how to respect the instruments. We also learned which mallets to use for
which kolintang. The dark green mallets are for the Melody, alto 1 and alto 2,
the brown mallets are for the base and the contra, and the mint green mallets
are for the tenor. The kolintang is made out of wood and the kolintang was from
North Sulawasi.
When we play the kolintang, we have to hold the mallets
right and play the kolintang with respect. I have learned that we are not
allowed to hit the kolintang with the wooden part of the mallet because as Ibu
Megan has explained to us that it is disrespectful for the kolintang.
